Target Information

Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses, one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+) as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD(+)-dependent forms localized to the mitochondrial matrix, and two NADP(+)-dependent forms (one mitochondrial and one cytosolic).
NAD(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the rate-limiting step of the tricarboxylic acid cycle and function as heterotetramers composed of two alpha, one beta, and one gamma subunit.
The encoded protein represents the beta subunit of one NAD(+)-dependent isozyme. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
