Target Information

Collapsin-response mediator proteins (CRMPs) are highly expressed in the developing brain, playing major roles in axonal outgrowth, neurite differentiation, and apoptosis. Their continued expression in regions of high synaptic remodeling (e.g., cerebellum, hippocampus, olfactory system) suggests involvement in adult brain plasticity.
CRMP-1, initially identified as a dihydro-pyrimidinase expressed exclusively in brain, is involved in neurotrophin (NT)-3 induced neurite formation and outgrowth. CRMP-1 localization shifts from axonal to somatodendritic as neurons mature, indicating roles in both early neuronal differentiation and later survival or death processes of newly generated neurons.
