MAPK14 (p38 alpha)는 스트레스 활성화 단백질 키나아제(MAPK) 클래스에 속하는 단백질로, 세포 스트레스, 염증 및 다양한 신호에 대한 반응 조절에 관여합니다.
p38 MAPK는 비인산화 상태에서는 비활성 상태이며, Thr-Gly-Tyr 모티프의 이중 인산화에 의해 빠르게 활성화됩니다.
p38 MAPK에는 조직 발현 및 상위/하위 인자 결합 친화성이 다른 네 가지 아이소폼이 존재합니다.
세포가 TNF, IL-1, 열충격 등의 자극을 받을 때 MAPK kinase-3/6가 활성화되어 p38 MAPK의 Thr180과 Tyr182 잔기를 인산화하며, 활성화된 p38 MAPK는 ATF-2, CHOP-1, MEF-2 등의 전사인자를 인산화시켜 세포 반응을 조절합니다.
