Target Information
STING is a 379-amino-acid signaling protein that plays a key role in innate immune signaling. It activates NF-κB and IRF3 transcription pathways to induce type I interferons (IFN-α and IFN-β), establishing a strong antiviral state. STING may function as a translocon influencing interferon induction and mediates apoptotic signaling via MHC-II association. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, and mediates death signaling through activation of the ERK pathway. STING is generally localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
