Target Information
Histones are nuclear proteins that play an important role in maintaining the structure of chromosomes in eukaryotes. The nucleosome consists of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of four major histones: H2A, H2B, H3, and H4.
H2A is essential for proper assembly and functioning of the centromere and plays a role in gene regulation. The protein can be modified by acetylation and phosphorylation.
