Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) plays an important role in plasma lipid metabolism and is a constituent of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations in interstitial fluids. ApoE facilitates cholesterol transport between cells and is essential for the formation of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons.
The ApoE gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
