Target Information
Stromelysin, a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family, demonstrates wide substrate specificity with the ability to degrade proteoglycan, fibronectin, laminin, casein, and the nonhelical region of collagen.
The stromelysin-3 (MMP-11) gene is expressed specifically in stromal cells surrounding invasive breast carcinomas and is localized to the long arm of chromosome 22.
MMP-11 expression is more frequently found in malignant tumors than in benign ones.
