Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Compromised spindle checkpoints contribute to genetic instability, predisposing cells to malignant transformation. Human cells contain two related checkpoint kinases derived from the BUB1 gene—hBUBR1 and hBUB1—which monitor mitotic kinetochore-microtubule interactions. hBUBR1 is essential for normal mitotic progression by preventing premature entry into anaphase. BUBR1 has been detected in human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), which may accelerate breast cancer progression by inactivating BUBR1 and compromising checkpoint control.
