Target Information

The GM-CSF gene encodes a cytokine that regulates the production, differentiation, and function of macrophages and granulocytes.

• The active form exists as a homodimer in the extracellular space.
• Located at chromosome region 5q31, associated with 5q- syndrome and acute myelogenous leukemia.
• Clustered with genes for IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13.
• Involved in promoting tissue inflammation.
• Elevated cytokine levels, including GM-CSF, observed in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
• Mice lacking this gene or receptor develop pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
