This antibody has specificity for Rat HAAO/3-HAO.

Target Information

HAAO (3-Hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-dioxygenase) is a monomeric cytosolic protein belonging to the family of intramolecular dioxygenases containing non-heme ferrous iron. It is widely distributed in peripheral organs such as the liver and kidney and present in low amounts in the central nervous system.
This enzyme is involved in tryptophan metabolism and employs iron as a cofactor. HAAO catalyzes the synthesis of quinolinic acid (QUIN) from 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid. QUIN acts as an excitotoxin via activation of glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors. Elevated cerebral QUIN levels may contribute to neurological and inflammatory disorders.
HAAO may play a role in conditions associated with altered QUIN levels and has been suggested as a potential biomarker for ovarian cancer detection.
