Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is frequently activated in various tumor cells and plays a critical role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK has been linked to regulation of cell proliferation and cycle control.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated expression can induce apoptosis in multiple cell types.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags at either terminus. Amplification or translocation of the c-Myc gene is associated with numerous cancers including lung, breast, colon, and Burkitt’s lymphoma.
Aberrant expression has been observed in colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, pulmonary, and hematopoietic tumors.
