Target Information
FOXRED2 (also known as ERFAD) is an endoplasmic reticulum luminal flavoprotein involved in ER-associated degradation (ERAD). It binds non-native proteins in the ER and targets them for ubiquitination and degradation. Knockdown of FOXRED2 delays degradation of ribophorin 332 and reduces polyubiquitinated protein levels. Related protein FOXRED1 defects cause mitochondrial complex I deficiency (MT-C1D), suggesting FOXRED2 may also play a role in MT-C1D.
