This antibody detects endogenous levels of total CYP2E1 protein.
Target Information
The CYP2E1 gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These monooxygenases catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. The protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and is induced by ethanol, diabetes, and starvation. It metabolizes both endogenous substrates (ethanol, acetone, acetal) and exogenous substrates (benzene, carbon tetrachloride, ethylene glycol, nitrosamines). Due to its wide range of substrates, CYP2E1 is implicated in processes such as gluconeogenesis, hepatic cirrhosis, diabetes, and cancer.
