Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper (bHLHZ) family of transcription factors. It can form homodimers and heterodimers with other family members such as Mad, Mxi1, and Myc. Myc is an oncoprotein involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. These dimers compete for a common DNA target site (the E box), and rearrangements among them regulate transcriptional activity. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though not all full-length forms are characterized.
