Product Specific Information
- Expected to recognize all isoforms (NP_037401.1; NP_001004419.1; NP_001184246.1).
- Tested in Peptide ELISA: antibody detection limit dilution 1:16,000.
Target Information
Zhou et al. identified a protein that inhibits multinucleate osteoclast formation in murine osteoblast and spleen cell co-cultures. This protein, Osteoclast Inhibitory Lectin (OCIL), can also inhibit osteoclast formation in spleen cell cultures treated with RANKL and M-CSF.
mOCIL acts directly on macrophage/monocyte cells, completely inhibiting osteoclast formation during the proliferative phase and causing 70% inhibition during differentiation.
OCIL mRNA expression in osteoblasts is enhanced by parathyroid hormone, calcitriol, interleukin-1, IL-11, and retinoic acid. OCIL is expressed in osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and various extraskeletal tissues.
Since OCIL expression resembles RANKL distribution, it is suggested that RANKL and OCIL may interact within skeletal and extracellular tissues.
