Target Information
ITGB1 (Integrin Subunit Beta 1, CD29) is a 110 kDa cell surface glycoprotein widely expressed in various cell types, including all leukocytes.
It forms non-covalent heterodimers with multiple alpha chains (α1–α6), determining the binding properties of β1 (VLA) integrins.
- Functions as a cell adhesion molecule on platelets and leukocytes.
- Involved in cell migration, immune cell trafficking, and extracellular matrix interactions.
- Decreased expression correlates with multidrug resistance in tumor cells.
- Plays roles in inflammatory bowel disease and cytokine regulation in airway smooth muscle.
- Two major isoforms, β1A and β1D, differ by 13 amino acids; β1A is ubiquitous except in cardiac and skeletal muscle, which express β1D.
