This affinity purified antibody is directed against human AP2A.
BLAST analysis suggests reactivity with AP2A1 and AP2A2 proteins from human, chimpanzee, orangutan, mouse, rat, chicken, and dog based on 100% homology for the immunogen sequence.
Cross-reactivity with AP2A proteins from other species is not known.

Target Information

AP2A is a component of the adaptor protein complex 2 (AP-2), which functions in protein transport via vesicle-mediated pathways.
Adaptor protein complexes are vesicle coat components involved in cargo selection and vesicle formation.
AP-2 participates in clathrin-dependent endocytosis, incorporating cargo proteins into clathrin-coated vesicles (CCVs) destined for fusion with early endosomes.
The AP-2 complex binds both clathrin and membrane components, serving as a major adaptor in CCV formation.
It also acts as a cargo receptor for receptor-mediated endocytosis and contributes to synaptic vesicle recycling.
AP-2 recognizes Y-X-X-[FILMV] and [ED]-X-X-X-L-[LI] endocytosis signal motifs within cytosolic tails of transmembrane cargo molecules.
Additionally, it may play a role in ARF6-regulated, non-clathrin trafficking pathways.
The AP-2 alpha subunit binds polyphosphoinositide-containing lipids, positioning AP-2 on membranes, and its C-terminal appendage serves as a scaffold for endocytic accessory proteins.
