Target Information
Thymidine phosphorylase (TP), also known as platelet-derived endothelial growth factor (PD-ECGF) or gliostatin, catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate. It acts as a chemotactic and mitogenic factor for endothelial cells and is a non-heparin-binding angiogenic factor present in platelets. Additionally, it participates in the transformation of fluoropyrimidines—cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment—into active metabolites.
