Target Information
PNPT1 (polyribonucleotide nucleotidyltransferase 1, mitochondrial) is an RNA-binding protein involved in multiple RNA metabolic processes. It catalyzes phosphorolysis of single-stranded polyribonucleotides in the 3′-to-5′ direction. PNPT1 is a component of the mitochondrial degradosome (mtEXO) complex that degrades 3′ overhang double-stranded RNA in an ATP-dependent manner. It is essential for proper processing and polyadenylation of mitochondrial mRNAs, mitochondrial morphogenesis, respiration, and regulation of electron transport chain expression. Mutations can cause combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 13 (COXPD13) and autosomal recessive deafness 70 (DFNB70).
