Target Information

Action potentials in vertebrate neurons are followed by an afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that can persist for several seconds and influence neuronal firing patterns. Each component of the AHP is kinetically distinct and mediated by different calcium-activated potassium channels.
The KCNN2-encoded protein contributes to the slow component of synaptic AHP, regulating neuronal excitability. It forms a voltage-independent calcium-activated channel with three calmodulin-binding subunits.
This gene belongs to the KCNN family of potassium channel genes, with two known transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
