Target Information
Ran is a small signaling GTPase involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport. It also plays roles in spindle aster formation and nuclear envelope reassembly during mitosis. Unlike Ras or Rho, Ran is not membrane-associated; instead, its accessory proteins RanGAP and RCC1 regulate the local concentration of RanGTP vs. RanGDP. Mammalian RanGAP binds to the nuclear pore through SUMOylation at its C terminus and subsequent interaction with nucleoporin Nup358.
