Target Information
The protein encoded by the KCNN4 gene is part of a potentially heterotetrameric voltage-independent potassium channel activated by intracellular calcium. Activation leads to membrane hyperpolarization, promoting calcium influx. The encoded protein may represent the predominant calcium-activated potassium channel in T-lymphocytes. Although similar to other KCNN family members, it differs sufficiently to be considered part of a new subfamily.
