Product Specific Information

RP-43134 contains native human Protein Z protein.
RP-43134 may be used as a positive control in many immunological assays.
The product is of human blood/plasma origin. Although the starting material was tested prior to initiation of the manufacturing process and was found negative or nonreactive for anti-HIV-1/2, HIV-1 antigen(s), HBsAg, STS, anti-HCV, anti-HBcore, and anti-HTLV I & II, extreme caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests.
This product is to be used for in vitro research purposes only, and is not intended for clinical or diagnostic use.

Target Information

Protein Z (PROZ) is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein, 62 kDa in size and composed of 396 amino acids. It contains four domains: a gla-rich region, two EGF-like domains, and a trypsin-like domain. Protein Z lacks the serine residue required for catalytic activity as a serine protease.
It is part of the coagulation cascade, a group of blood proteins that contribute to clot formation. Protein Z’s function is vitamin K-dependent and can be impaired during warfarin therapy.
Although not enzymatically active, it is structurally related to serine proteases such as factors VII, IX, X, and protein C. Carboxyglutamate residues enable binding to phospholipid surfaces.
Protein Z accelerates the degradation of factor Xa by the protein Z-related protease inhibitor (ZPI) approximately 1000-fold. ZPI also degrades factor XI independently of protein Z.
Deficiency of protein Z has been variably associated with both thrombosis and bleeding tendencies, though its physiological role is primarily inhibitory.

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
