Target Information
Early endosomal antigen 1 (EEA1) is a 162 kDa membrane-bound protein specific to the early endosome and essential for fusion between early endocytic vesicles. Early endosomes are cytoplasmic compartments that fuse with endocytic vesicles for redistribution of extracellular compounds. Zinc-finger-like domains are located in the amino and carboxyl-terminal regions of EEA1, with the carboxyl-terminal domain being a conserved zinc-binding domain crucial for intracellular localization. Membrane association of EEA1 depends on phosphatidyl 3-kinase activity; inhibitors cause dissociation from early endosomes.
