HSP70는 다양한 생물학적 스트레스(예: 고온)에 반응하여 발현되는 Heat Shock Protein(HSP) 계열 단백질입니다. HSP70 계열은 HSP90, HSP100 등과 함께 여러 주요 HSP 패밀리를 구성하며, 진화적으로 높은 보존성을 보입니다. 인간의 HSP70 패밀리에는 HSP70, HSP72, HSC70, GRP78(BiP), HSP75 등이 포함됩니다.
이 단백질들은 단백질의 응집 방지 및 새로운 단백질의 접힘(folding)을 매개하며, ubiquitin-proteasome 경로에도 관여합니다. HSP70 유전자는 intronless 형태로 MHC class III 영역에 위치하며, 유사 단백질을 암호화하는 두 개의 관련 유전자와 함께 클러스터를 형성합니다.
