Target Information
Gas2 is a 313 amino acid protein encoded by the human GAS2 gene. It plays a role in apoptosis as a substrate for caspases, particularly caspase-3 and caspase-7, which cleave Gas2 at Asparagine 278. This cleavage induces actin cytoskeleton rearrangement and morphological changes during apoptosis. Gas2 is also involved in membrane ruffling and is phosphorylated during the G0–G1 transition phase. It co-localizes with actin fibers at the cell border and along stress fibers in growth-arrested fibroblasts. Expression is highest in liver, lung, and kidney.
