Target Information
TAS2R41 is a receptor that may play a role in the perception of bitterness and belongs to the G-protein receptor superfamily. It is expressed mainly in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia.
The TAS2R41 gene encodes a seven transmembrane receptor protein and is clustered with eight other taste receptor genes on chromosome 7. Chloramphenicol acts as an agonist for TAS2R41.
TAS2R41 may contribute to sensing the chemical composition of gastrointestinal content, stimulating alpha gustducin, mediating PLC-beta-2 activation, and gating TRPM5. It is expressed in gustducin-positive taste receptor cells capable of discriminating bitter compounds.
