Target Information
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter found throughout the central nervous system. It is formed by the decarboxylation of glutamate and exists in two main receptor types: GABA-A and GABA-B. Binding of GABA to GABA-A receptors increases chloride ion transport into neurons, leading to suppression of signal transmission. Insufficient GABA signaling can result in neurological disturbances such as blackouts, convulsions, seizures, and epilepsy.
