Target Information
Isoform VP2 is a structural protein located within the core of the parvovirus capsid, surrounded by 72 VP1 pentamers. It participates in host cell receptor binding together with VP1. After endocytosis and trafficking to the endoplasmic reticulum, VP2 and VP3 form oligomers and integrate into the ER membrane. The VP2–VP3 heterooligomer may function as a viroporin, facilitating viral genome transport across the ER membrane. VP2 or VP3 nuclear localization signals enable nuclear entry of the viral DNA. VP2 plays a key role in virion assembly within the nucleus through a DNA-binding domain in its C-terminal region, and its N-terminal myristoylation suggests a scaffold function during assembly.
