Target Information
MLH1 is a DNA mismatch repair protein essential for maintaining genetic integrity. Alterations in microsatellite repeats, due to strand misalignment during DNA replication, lead to microsatellite instability (MSI), which is associated with carcinogenesis. Defects in mismatch repair genes, such as MLH1, are linked to hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (HNPC). MSH2 is involved in the initial recognition of mismatched nucleotides and works with MLH1 and PMSH in subsequent repair steps.
