Target Information
This gene encodes a precursor protein consisting of arginine vasopressin and two associated proteins, neurophysin 2 and copeptin. Arginine vasopressin is a posterior pituitary hormone synthesized in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus.
It acts as a growth factor by enhancing pH regulation through acid-base transport systems, exerts antidiuretic effects on the kidney, and causes vasoconstriction of peripheral vessels.
Additionally, it plays roles in cognition, tolerance, adaptation, sexual and maternal behavior, water excretion, and cardiovascular function.
