Target Information

Ustekinumab is a human immunoglobulin (IgG1 kappa) monoclonal antibody directed against interleukin (IL)-12 and IL-23, cytokines involved in immune and inflammatory responses. It was generated via recombinant human IL-12 immunization of human Ig transgenic mice.
This antibody is a targeted biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (bDMARD) used to study inflammatory conditions involving IL-12 and IL-23 signaling pathways. IL-12 and IL-23 are heterodimeric cytokines that mediate immune and inflammatory responses such as NK cell activation and CD4+ T-cell differentiation.
These cytokines are implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases including psoriasis and inflammatory bowel diseases. They modulate lymphocyte function, including T-helper (Th) 1 and Th17 subsets, which can activate downstream pro-inflammatory mediators and transcription factors such as TNFα and IFNγ, driving innate and adaptive immunity.
