Target Information
Inward rectifier potassium channels preferentially allow potassium ions to flow into the cell rather than out. Their voltage dependence is regulated by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the channel opening voltage shifts positively. Inward rectification results mainly from internal magnesium blocking outward current.
KCNJ13 exhibits very low single-channel conductance, low sensitivity to external barium and cesium blockage, and inward rectification properties independent of internal magnesium blocking.
