Target Information
p27 Kip1 functions as a negative regulator of G1 phase progression and mediates TGFβ-induced G1 arrest. It inhibits cyclin E- and cyclin A-CDK2 complexes and interacts with cyclin D-CDK4 complexes, influencing their activation depending on phosphorylation state. The protein (~27 kDa) undergoes CDK-dependent phosphorylation and ubiquitination by SCF complexes, which triggers its degradation and enables cellular transition from quiescence to proliferation.
