Target Information
FOXC1 is a member of the forkhead family of transcription factors, characterized by a distinct DNA-binding forkhead domain.
Although its specific function is not fully understood, FOXC1 is involved in the regulation of the FGF19–FGFR4–MAPK pathway, contributing to the development and maintenance of anterior segment structures within the eye.
Mutations in the FOXC1 gene are associated with various ocular anomalies such as glaucoma, iridogoniodysgenesis, Peters anomaly, and Axenfeld-Rieger anomaly, which can involve structural and developmental defects of the cornea, iris, and facial bones.
