Target Information
Glyceraldehyde 3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a metabolic enzyme that catalyzes a step in the glycolytic pathway — the reversible oxidative phosphorylation of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. GAPDH is highly expressed and essential for cellular housekeeping functions, making its mRNA and protein levels valuable as expression standards. GAPDH interacts with proteins such as amyloid precursor protein (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin (associated with Huntington’s disease). It also associates with actin and tubulin, and may play a role in apoptosis regulation by translocating from the cytoplasm to the nucleus in apoptotic cells.
