Target Information
The ARFGAP3 protein is a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) associated with the Golgi apparatus, regulating the early secretory pathway of proteins. It promotes hydrolysis of ARF1-bound GTP, facilitating dissociation of coat proteins from Golgi-derived membranes and vesicles, a prerequisite for vesicle fusion with target compartments. Its activity is phospholipid-sensitive, and multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. The gene was originally referred to as ARFGAP1, which now denotes a distinct but related gene.
