Target Information
Coagulation factor VII is a vitamin K-dependent factor essential for hemostasis. It circulates in the blood as a zymogen and is activated by minor proteolysis mediated by factor IXa, factor Xa, factor XIIa, or thrombin. Upon activation, it forms a heavy chain with a catalytic domain and a light chain with two EGF-like domains, linked by a disulfide bond. In the presence of factor III and calcium ions, activated factor VII initiates the coagulation cascade by converting factor IX to IXa and/or factor X to Xa.
Defects in F7 production can lead to coagulopathy.
