Target Information
The ATP1A1 gene encodes the alpha 1 subunit of Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase, a P-type cation transport enzyme responsible for maintaining electrochemical gradients of sodium and potassium ions across the plasma membrane. These gradients are essential for osmoregulation, sodium-coupled transport, and electrical excitability in nerve and muscle cells. The enzyme consists of a large catalytic alpha subunit and a smaller glycoprotein beta subunit. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
