Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known as regulators of programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their death repressor activity. Its proapoptotic function is regulated by phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, as well as the phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
