Product Specific Information
The Exosome - anti-CD81 antibody recognizes human CD81, a member of the tetraspanin family, and is predicted to react with feline and rabbit.
This antibody has been verified for Western blotting of cellular and exosomal CD81 antigen (~25 kDa) and is typically used at 2 µg/mL under non-reducing conditions.
Other applications may work but have not been tested.
Target Information
CD81 (TAPA-1, target of anti-proliferative antibody-1) is a member of the tetraspanin family and is expressed on most nucleated cells, especially germinal center B cells.
It forms complexes with other tetraspanins, integrins, coreceptors, and MHC molecules, influencing cell adhesion, morphology, activation, proliferation, and differentiation.
In muscle cells, CD81 promotes cell fusion and myotube maintenance.
It also acts as a receptor for the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
CD81 is a cell surface glycoprotein that complexes with integrins and associates with CD19, CD21, and Leu 13, contributing to immune signaling.
Antibodies to CD81 can have anti-proliferative effects on lymphoid cell lines and may play a role in tumor suppression.
