Target Information
Aquaporin 4 (AQP4), also known as mercurial insensitive water channel, localizes to the sarcolemma of fast-twitch muscle fibers. Aquaporins are integral membrane water transport channel proteins that facilitate water movement across cell membranes. This function is conserved across animals, plants, and bacteria. Multiple isoforms (AQP0–AQP10) exist, and several may co-exist in the same cell. While most are water-selective, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript also transport urea and glycerol.
