Mycoplasmas are the smallest known prokaryotes and are among the most common contaminants in cell culture. PCR-based detection is rapid, sensitive, and can be completed within a few hours.
This kit is designed for detection of mycoplasma through amplification of the 16S rRNA genomic DNA sequence, which is highly conserved among various mycoplasma species.
It enables detection of commonly encountered cell culture contaminants such as:

• Mycoplasma fermentans
• Mycoplasma arginini
• Mycoplasma hominis
• Mycoplasma orale
• Mycoplasma bovis
• Mycoplasma hyorhinis
• Acholeplasma laidlawii

Eukaryotic DNA is not amplified.
A successful PCR reaction is indicated by a distinct band of 502–520 bp derived from the internal control DNA on agarose gel.
