Target Information
Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins involved in modulating cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions. The protein encoded by this gene is an S-type lectin, overexpressed in Hodgkin’s disease tissue, and may play a role in interactions between H and RS cells with surrounding cells, potentially contributing to disease pathogenesis and associated immunodeficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist for this gene.
