Target Information
SNF1LK2 (also known as QIK) is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the AMP-activated protein kinase family. It negatively regulates CRE-binding protein (CREB) activity by phosphorylating the CREB-specific coactivator TORC.
SIK2 is part of a signaling cascade regulating insulin-induced genes such as PGC-1α and UCP-1 in brown adipocytes, with implications in obesity and insulin resistance.
Additionally, SIK2 acts as a key regulator for neuronal survival after ischemia, suppressing CREB-mediated gene expression following oxygen-glucose deprivation.
