Target Information
High-density lipoproteins (HDLs) function with lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase and CETP to facilitate cholesterol transport from tissues to the liver, a process known as reverse cholesterol transport. This mechanism maintains systemic cholesterol levels. CETP mediates neutral lipid transfer activity in plasma and accelerates the exchange of lipid components between pro- and anti-atherogenic lipoprotein fractions. Elevated CETP levels have been associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease, making it a potential target for atherosclerosis prevention.
