Product Specific Information

The RM4-5 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD4 molecule, a 55 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subset of mature T cells, and dendritic cells. CD4 binds to MHC class II molecules on antigen-presenting cells and plays a crucial role in T cell development and function. In T cells, CD4 associates with the protein tyrosine kinase p56lck via its cytoplasmic tail. Binding of RM4-5 is blocked by GK1.5.

Target Information

CD4 is a co-receptor for MHC class II recognition and plays a role in T-cell activation. It is mainly expressed in T helper cells but can also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression occurs in lymphoid organs such as thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, and spleen, and in specific brain and gut regions. It interacts with the T-cell receptor complex and tyrosine kinase Lck to initiate immune signaling. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified.
