• In direct ELISAs, approximately 10% cross-reactivity with recombinant human CCL4/MIP-1 beta and recombinant mouse CCL4/MIP-1 beta is observed.
• Less than 1% cross-reactivity with recombinant viral CCL4/MIP-1 beta is observed.
• Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.

Target Information

CCL4 (macrophage inflammatory protein 1-beta, MIP1B) belongs to the intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family. Functionally, CCL4 is involved in chemotactic and proinflammatory responses and homeostasis. It is produced by macrophages upon stimulation by bacterial endotoxins and recruits various inflammatory cells to sites of inflammation.

CCL4 is expressed by lymphocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Together with CCL3, it participates in host defense against bacterial, viral, parasitic, and fungal pathogens by regulating trafficking and activation of specific inflammatory cell subgroups.

While both CCL4 and CCL3 affect monocytes similarly, they differ in lymphocyte specificity:

• CCL4 selectively attracts CD4+ lymphocytes
• CCL3 selectively attracts CD8+ lymphocytes

Both act as potent chemoattractants for B cells, eosinophils, and dendritic cells. The processed form of CCL4 can down-regulate CCR5 receptor expression, thereby inhibiting CCR5-mediated HIV-1 entry into T cells. CCL4 binds with high affinity to CCR5 receptors.
