Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. FARS2 is a phenylalanine-tRNA synthetase (PheRS) localized to the mitochondrion, consisting of a single polypeptide chain, unlike the (α-β)₂ structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cytoplasmic forms. Structure and catalytic properties indicate mitochondrial PheRSs may form a distinct class from those in prokaryotes and the eukaryotic cytoplasm.
FARS1 encodes a mitochondrially-located phenylalanine-tRNA synthetase (PheRS) with similar structural features.
