Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons and are essential for maintaining neuronal caliber. They consist mainly of three major proteins: NF-L (light), NF-M (medium), and NF-H (heavy).
NF-L is the low molecular weight subunit (~70 kDa) and plays a key role in neuronal structure. NF-H, the heavy subunit, runs at approximately 180–220 kDa on SDS-PAGE, with some interspecies variation.
Expression of these intermediate filament proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated.
